IPSWICH — Following an hourslong search on Thursday that saw the deployment of drones and an ATV on Pineswamp Road, Ipswich police have located the man they were looking for.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., an officer reported spotting the man’s vehicle in the Shaw’s parking lot. Though the vehicle was reported as unoccupied at first, a closer inspection revealed that the man was sitting inside.

At 3:36 p.m., an officer on scene reported that he had spoken to the man and that “everything checks out.”

Earlier in the day, dispatch alerted officers to be on the lookout for a male driving a black Mercedes-Benz after family members had expressed concern for his safety.

According to dispatch, the man had been going through marital problems and was likely headed for a wooded area.

At around 2 p.m., dispatch reported that the man’s cellphone had “pinged” in the area behind 71 Pineswamp Road.

At 2:44 p.m., the dispatcher said he was sending the exact location of the cellphone ping to officers. Shortly after, one officer on scene said that he was standing in the exact area the ping had come from, but nobody was there.

After police found the man at Shaw’s, the dispatcher said that he contacted the man’s “estranged” wife to let her know that he had been found.
