IPSWICH — Chris Collier has been named Junior Celtics Academy Coach of the Year for “his leadership and impact on youth basketball.”
A volunteer at the Ipswich Family YMCA, Collier was selected for his dedication to coaching girls aged 6 to 9.
Collier was recognized during the Boston Celtics’ game against Portland in March, which was also “Her Time to Play” night in celebration of Women’s History Month.
“It is an honor to have a Jr. Celtics Academy Coach of the Year at the Ipswich Family YMCA,” said YMCA of the North Shore sports director Garrett Coler.
The YMCA of the North Shore said it “has been dedicated to the development and growth of a girls’ basketball program for more than three years.”
Support from coaches such as Collier has helped to double enrollment “and make a lasting, positive impact on girls in the Y’s service area,” it added
Collier will now advance to the national selection process for the Junior NBA/Junior WNBA Community Coach of the Year.
